Erdem Mustafa, 35, was shot dead in a Hertford Road pub. A man of 23 was arrested and police are hunting a second man: do not approach him, call police.
A 35-year-old man was shot dead in a pub on Hertford Road, Enfield, on Monday night. The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation. It has released a CCTV image of a person detectives want to speak to.
Updated 27 October: a 23-year-old man was arrested on Monday 26 October on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, and remains in custody. Detectives have also named and released pictures of a 35-year-old man they urgently need to trace, who they believe is the person in last week’s CCTV image. The Met says he has “significantly altered his appearance” since, and has links to the Enfield, Haringey and Brixton areas. Anyone who sees him should not approach him and should contact police immediately. His name and pictures are in the force’s appeal. Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo said: “While I am pleased my team have made an arrest, our work continues at pace to investigate the full circumstances around Erdem’s murder.” Information to 101 quoting CAD 7050/19OCT26, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Updated 23 October: the Met has named the man who died as Erdem Mustafa, aged 35. Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo, who leads the investigation, said: “While detectives are keeping an open mind, we believe this to be a targeted attack.” No arrests had then been made when the force renewed its appeal on Wednesday 21 October, and extra officers remain in the area. The force set out what it knows in a statement published on Tuesday 20 October.
What the police say happened
Police were called at about 9.30pm on Monday 19 October to reports of a shooting at a pub on Hertford Road. The force has not named the pub.
- Officers went with the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
- Paramedics treated a 35-year-old man for gunshot wounds.
- He was pronounced dead at the scene.
- His family have been told and are being supported by specialist officers.
No arrests had been made when the force first reported the shooting on 20 October. A crime scene remained in place while officers investigated.
The CCTV image
Detectives say CCTV enquiries have identified a person they would like to speak to. The force says it is unclear at this early stage whether the person is a man or a woman, or whether they are wearing a disguise.
The image is on the Met’s appeal page. Detectives are urging anyone who recognises the person to come forward.
What the officers leading the case said
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo is leading the investigation. He said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time as they begin to come to terms with this senseless act.”
He asked for help from anyone who was nearby: “We are also particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage that could assist our enquiries. Even information that may seem insignificant could prove crucial.”
Chief Superintendent Anna Mccartney leads policing in the area. She said: “We recognise the concern local people will have and can reassure them that our officers are working urgently to identify and trace those responsible.”

What it means for you
- Were you on Hertford Road on Monday evening? Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area around 9.30pm, even if what you saw seems small.
- Do you have a doorbell camera or dashcam? If you live on or drove along Hertford Road that night, check your footage from Monday evening. Detectives have asked for CCTV, doorbell, dashcam and mobile phone footage.
- Recognise the person in the image? Look at it on the force’s appeal page and call 101 or Crimestoppers. Do not approach them yourself.
- Expect a police presence. The crime scene was still in place on Tuesday. The force has not said which stretch of Hertford Road is affected.
Chief Superintendent Mccartney said on 21 October that “extra officers remain in the area to offer further reassurance”. The reference to quote is unchanged: CAD 7050/19OCT26.
