A 17-year-old e-bike rider died after a crash with a car on Elsinge Road, Enfield, on Sunday night. A man of 60 is held on suspicion of drink driving.

A 17-year-old boy has died after the e-bike he was riding was in a collision with a car on Elsinge Road, Enfield, on Sunday night. A 60-year-old man has been arrested.

The Metropolitan Police issued a witness appeal on Monday 5 October. (Metropolitan Police, 5 October 2026)

What the police have said

Police were called at 22:56 on Sunday 4 October to a collision in Elsinge Road. The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance also attended.

The statement sets out the following:

  • the collision involved a car and an e-bike
  • the rider of the e-bike, a boy aged 17, was pronounced dead at the scene
  • his next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers
  • the driver of the car, a 60-year-old man, was arrested

The Met says the man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink. He remains in custody, the statement says.

An arrest is not a charge. Nobody has been charged, on the force’s published account. The Met has not named the boy, and has not said where on Elsinge Road the collision happened.

Where Elsinge Road is

Elsinge Road is a residential street in Enfield Wash, EN1, just east of the A10 Great Cambridge Road and south of Bullsmoor Lane. It is in the north-east of the borough, about two miles north-east of Enfield Town.

The appeal

Detective Inspector Simon Ager said:

“Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this tragic loss.

“We are working at pace to establish the full circumstances around the collision, and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any piece of information you have could be crucial in our investigation.”

He asked anyone who was in the area, or who has CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, to contact police as soon as possible.

A second death in the Southgate crash

The same detective is leading the inquiry into the collision on Chase Side, Southgate, on 20 September. The Met said on Monday that a second man has died. He was 31, and died in hospital on Wednesday 30 September. A man of 48 died on 22 September. (Metropolitan Police, 5 October 2026)

That inquiry has its own reference number, and we have updated our report on it.
