The Parade of Light ends at Fountain Island with free fireworks. No 2026 dates are published yet, so here is the route, the running order and when to expect news.

Nothing has been announced for 2026 yet. As of 3 September, Enfield Council’s own winter events and activities page is live but its event listing is empty, and there is no announcement on the council’s news feed. The Parade of Light is organised by residents rather than the council, and it has never gone public this early.

So this page does the next most useful thing: it sets out what the event actually is, where it goes, and roughly when the date should appear, all from the last three years of published detail. We will replace it with the confirmed 2026 programme as soon as one exists.

When the date is likely to land

The Enfield Town parade has fallen on a Sunday in the last week of November or the first week of December every year:

  • 2023: Sunday 3 December
  • 2024: Sunday 1 December
  • 2025: Sunday 30 November

The equivalent Sundays in 2026 are 29 November and 6 December. Treat that as the window to watch, not as a date. Announcements have tended to come in the second half of November, which is late, and is exactly why this search gets busy.

What the Parade of Light is

It is a free evening parade of illuminated floats through Enfield Town, run by a group of local residents since 2011 with backing from The Old Enfield Charitable Trust, Palace Gardens Shopping Centre and a rotating list of local businesses. The day builds up around it, and it ends with the Christmas tree lights and fireworks.

The 2025 running order, as advertised locally, went like this:

  • Noon to 6pm: food traders and funfair.
  • 1pm to 2pm: St Andrew’s bell ringers.
  • 2pm to 6pm: community market and entertainment.
  • 4pm: the parade leaves the Civic Centre.
  • About 5pm: the parade reaches Church Street.
  • About 5.20pm: carols at Fountain Island.
  • About 5.40pm: fireworks.

The route

The parade sets off from Enfield Civic Centre on Silver Street, then runs along Baker Street, Lancaster Road, Chase Side and Church Street, finishing at Fountain Island. That route has held for at least the last two years.

It is the same stretch of road the buses use, so if you are driving through Enfield Town late on that Sunday afternoon, you are going to sit in it. Our roadworks and travel page carries anything else happening on those roads.

Parking is the other pinch point. Council car parks in Enfield Town are free for the first three hours on a Sunday, which is the one day of the week that concession applies, and the details are on our parking in Enfield page.

The tree lights and the fireworks

The switch-on itself happens at Fountain Island, where the borough’s main Christmas tree stands. In 2024 the lights went on at 5.20pm and an aerial fireworks display followed at 5.40pm, sponsored that year by Curwens Solicitors. In 2023 the fireworks were at 5.45pm and sponsored by Pearsons.

This display is free and it is a separate thing entirely from the ticketed Town Park fireworks, which this year has moved to Halloween.

The rest of the borough

Enfield Council puts up lighting installations in seven town centres, and not all of them get a ceremony. The pattern from recent years:

Town centre What normally happens
Palmers Green Official switch-on with the Mayor, junction of Aldermans Hill and Green Lanes, late November, late afternoon
Angel Edmonton Community tree lighting at Angel Yard, Snell’s Park, with the Leader of the council
Enfield Town Parade of Light, market, funfair, tree lights and fireworks
Cockfosters, Ponders End, Southgate, Winchmore Hill Lights come on at dusk with no ceremony

Enfield Town’s lights are not just the tree. The council installed permanent energy-efficient LED lighting in the trees at Library Green and Fountain Island, which supplements cross-street lighting in Church Street, London Road and Market Square.

A caution about the council’s own page

The council’s fullest published schedule of switch-on events is this 2024 news article, and it is worth reading with care. It is date-stamped 17 December 2024, after every event it describes had already happened, and it calls 1 December “Small Business Saturday” when 1 December 2024 was a Sunday. The venues and times in it are useful as a guide to the shape of the season. The weekday labels are not.

What we are waiting for

  • The 2026 Parade of Light date, expected from the organisers in November.
  • The council’s winter events listing, which is published but currently empty.
  • Switch-on dates for Palmers Green, Angel Edmonton and Southgate, which normally run from around the third week of November.

If you want more to do in the meantime, our things to do in Enfield page has the eight main attractions with current prices and opening days.
